Jennifer Gaita Siciliano is the creator, host, and producer of Not As Crazy As You Think Podcast, fighting for the disenfranchised and often ignored voices of psychiatric survivors. An expert by lived experience offering an alternative view on mental illness, Jennifer challenges today’s definition of normal and abnormal by highlighting creativity and nonconventional healing. Jennifer shares the message that states of mental distress are not the result of individual pathology but manifest as a sign of guidance to redirect our lives. Launched in November 2020, her podcast is now in its 6th season with nearly 100 episodes, over 10,000 downloads, and available at all podcast locations. Medication-free for 3 years after a 3-year taper, she’s also a contributing writer to the international social justice website, Mad In America.Jennifer has been writing her memoir for the last decade and represents the alternative voice in a changing societal landscape challenging outdated mental illness paradigms seeking to relinquish the patriarchal and colonial narratives of old. In her artistic career, Jennifer found professional acclaim as a New York City-based bodypainter for over a decade, winning awards nationally and working with top artists. Since Covid, she began painting canvases again and exhibits her work regularly in New York City and Westchester County. With BAs in English and Art and a master’s in teaching, she currently teaches high school art and theater in the urban setting of Yonkers, New York.
