Sarah R. Kamens, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and interdisciplinary scholar whose work focuses on theories of mental distress, including phenomenological-existential approaches to psychosis and structural violence. Kamens holds an MA in Communication from the European Graduate School in Switzerland and an MA/PhD in clinical psychology from Fordham University in New York City. She completed predoctoral clinical training at the Yale University School of Medicine with a focus on adult community mental health. Her postdoctoral clinical training took place at the Yale Specialized Treatment Early in Psychosis (STEP) program. Kamens spent two years as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Visiting Professor at Wesleyan University, as well as three years as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the SUNY College at Old Westbury Psychology. In addition to her work in private practice, Kamens is currently Editor of the Journal of Humanistic Psychology (Sage Publications). Her book, Reconceptualizing Schizophrenia: The Phenomenology of Urhomelessness (2023) was published in the ISPS book series by Routledge.
