About me
Melissa Uehling, MD, PhD is a PGY-1 in the Yale Psychiatry Residency Program and NRTP. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Alabama, and went on to complete her MD and PhD in sociology at Emory University. Her doctoral work focused on subjectivity in psychosis, psychiatrist-patient relationships, and power dynamics in psychiatry.
Melissa’s research draws on qualitative and interdisciplinary methods to better understand how individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness experience psychiatric treatment, particularly in contexts involving coercion and involuntary care. She is committed to improving experiences of care through critique of power dynamics and centering of lived experience.
