Jimmy Master, PsyD is a licensed clinical psychologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Stony Brook University’s Renaissance School of Medicine, where he also serves as Director of Adult Ambulatory Behavioral Health, as well as the Director of the Psychodynamic Curriculum for Residency Training. In this leadership role, he oversees a large interdisciplinary outpatient division and has led the development and implementation of multiple innovative clinical programs, including specialty services for substance use, ADHD, psychosis, personality disorders, and integrated behavioral health within primary care. His work emphasizes expanding access to care, advancing collaborative care models across medical specialties, and improving continuity between inpatient and outpatient services. Clinically, he has extensive experience treating individuals with complex presentations, including psychosis, personality pathology, mood disorders, and substance use across diverse settings such as academic medical centers, state psychiatric hospitals, and integrated care environments. Dr. Master is also deeply engaged in psychiatric education and scholarship. He directs the psychodynamic psychotherapy curriculum for psychiatry residents, is a core teaching faculty member, provides longitudinal supervision, and has received institutional recognition for excellence in teaching. His research focuses on the intersection of personality pathology and psychosis, with particular attention to epistemic stance and its role in treatment outcomes. He has presented this work at national and international conferences and is involved in ongoing clinical research, including co-investigator roles in randomized controlled trials for Alzheimer’s disease. His academic contributions are grounded in a developmental and psychodynamic framework, informed by earlier research on attachment, resilience, and psychopathology across the lifespan.
