About me
Alexander Campanario Araica has worked in multiple peer and related roles including group facilitator (online and in-person), offering housing supports with our local Housing Consumer Education Center (HCEC), and Community Bridging. Today he serves as a trainer, Co-Coorindator of Mobile Supports for Anemoni peerr respite (the first trans and queer peer respite in the world) and as Outcomes Specialist for both Anemoni and Afiya (the first peer respite in Massachusetts). Most days he meets with community members one on one for either in-person or remote bridging. Alex remains committed to undoing systemic forms of oppression such as racism, sexism, transphobia and xenophobia as well as supporting the community through connection and mutuality.
Alex has facilitated many groups including HVN, Spanish Peer Support and in-person peer support groups in most of the locked psychiatric units in Western Massachusetts. He has spoken about peer support and peer respites to clinicians, providers, lawyers and doctors in places such as the International Harm Reduction Conference in St. Louis, the Community Responders for Equity, Safety and Service (CRESS) in Amherst, and with the Department of Mental Health (DMH) Puerto Rico. He is looking forward to his second ISPS conference!
