About me
Ethel Kirabo Nalule is a doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology Program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice / CUNY Graduate Center. Inspired by bell hooks and Paulo Freire, she views education as a practice of freedom, recognizing that when a student walks into and out of a classroom, they carry their inner and outer world with them. Ethel is committed to integrating lived experience into teaching and learning because she believes education should expand possibility, not exclude those whose lives fall outside dominant narratives of health, ability, and success. Since 2014, Ethel has worked in health justice advocacy across mental health, disability access, and healthcare policy in support of student rights in Canada and the United States. As an incoming adjunct lecturer, current training clinician, and former teaching assistant, she is passionate about reducing stigma and creating classrooms where students feel seen, supported, and empowered to engage with complex but real conversations regarding mental health. Ethel has co-authored publications in BMC Public Health, the Journal of Pain, and the Journal of Africana Studies.
