About me
Courtney Wiesepape, PsyD, HSPP [she/her] is a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychology at Indiana State University, where she teaches, mentors, and supervises graduate and undergraduate students. She is the founder and director of the Metacognition for Recovery, Growth, and Engagement (MeRGE) Lab, which explores how metacognition can support recovery, personal growth, and meaningful engagement for individuals living with serious mental illness. Her clinical and research work focuses on metacognition, recovery-oriented psychotherapy, and the implementation of Metacognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy (MERIT) for individuals with psychosis-spectrum disorders and complex mental health presentations.
Courtney serves on the board of the MERIT Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing metacognitive approaches to recovery in serious mental illness, and on the executive board of the Serious Mental Illness/Severe Emotional Disturbance (SMI/SED) Section of APA Division 18. She completed her PsyD at Indiana State University in 2022, along with an internship at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in the Serious Mental Illness track. She later completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine focused on adapting a group-based stigma intervention for individuals experiencing first-episode psychosis. Prior to joining Indiana State University as faculty, Courtney worked as a staff psychologist in the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) at the Austin VA, where she provided recovery-oriented psychotherapy and psychosocial rehabilitation services for Veterans living with serious mental illness.
