About me
Coreena Forstner, MSW (she/they) is a social worker and PhD student in Social Work and Clinical Psychology at the University of Michigan, working under the mentorship of Dr. Shanna Kattari in the [Sexuality | Relationships | Gender] Research Collective. Her research examines psychosis, trauma, and their impacts on recovery, sexual health, and relational well-being. Informed by abolitionist, critical theory, and Mad Studies frameworks, Coreena is interested in how individuals with severe mental illness (SMI) in forensic mental health settings experience structural and institutional violence. Ultimately, their research centers questions of autonomy and liberation for individuals situated at the intersection of the criminal-legal and mental health systems.
