About me
Ashley Phillips, MA, MT-BC is a doctoral student at William James College, currently completing a PsyD in clinical psychology. Her clinical and scholarly work focuses on de-pathologizing psychotic experiences using existential, phenomenological, and liberation perspectives. Ashley has honed her specialization in psychosis through academic study and many years of working in intensive clinical settings that function to control and oppress psychotic experience despite being structured with the goal of care. Her experience treating psychosis within carceral settings inspires her liberation-oriented perspective and commitment to understanding psychosis as a meaningful response to unmanageable conditions. Ashley’s work thus far has culminated in the completion of her dissertation: Existential Concerns in the Experience of Psychosis: An Existential-Phenomenological Perspective and Thematic Analysis. For ISPS-US’s 25th annual conference, Ashley will showcase how experiences of isolation were presented in first-person accounts of psychosis and explore how these experiences contributed to her conclusion that psychosis is a reflection of disordered systems, not disordered selves.
