Keynote Speaker: Racial Disparities in Psychosis: Why Social Factors and Neighborhoods Matter (Hybrid)

This lecture will describe how structural racism is connected to social determinants of psychosis outcomes and risk, and how this contributes to racial disparities in psychosis. Evidence from national epidemiologic, clinical high risk, and first episode psychosis samples, and from multi-method studies (e.g., qualitative) will be used to illustrate these connections. Neighborhood and community-level social supports may also promote cultural resilience in ways that may be protective for psychosis risk. This will be described and implications discussed especially as it pertains to ethnoracial minoritized groups.
